Awarded Four Medals Across Spirits and RTDs
Kihei, Hawaii (April 12, 2022) – Today, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) announced that Kupu Spirits has earned four medals at the annual spirits competition. Kupu Spirits entered its Whiskey(Silver), Gin (Bronze), and ready-to-enjoy canned cocktails of Gin & Tonic (Silver) and Whiskey Ginger(Bronze) which each won in their respective category and class.
Founded in 2000 by James Beard Award-winning Anthony Dias Blue, the SFWSC promotes itself as the spirits industry’s most influential competition. The judging panel consists of the most experienced and respected experts in the spirits industry. This year, nearly 5,000 entries were received from over 40 international countries including the US for evaluation across over 100 categories and classes within those categories.
Lead Distiller, Nick Reiss said, “I’m very proud of the work we put into these winners and humbled by the recognition from the judges that participated in this year’s San Francisco Spirits Competition. I’m especially stoked to see our newest release of our island-aged Kupu Whiskey and our fan favorite, Gin & Tonic receive the silver medals. I’m grateful to be part of the MBC ‘Ohana that allows us the freedom to stay creative and have fun while developing these recipes.”
Kupu Spirits Whiskey is distilled from a blend of corn, rye, and malted barley then aged on the slopes of Haleakala in new charred American oak. The 88 proof Whiskey is an exceptional expression of caramel and vanilla building to peppery spicy notes with a hint of nuttiness.
Kupu Spirits Gin is distilled from grain and a proprietary blend of botanicals including juniper, local citrus, lemon peel, licorice root and hibiscus. It is gluten free and 88 proof.
The craft cocktails blend Kupu Spirits Whiskey or Gin with Maui Brewing Company’s Island Sodas, which are created in-house using all-natural ingredients such as cane sugar, local island honey, and Hawaii-grown ginger. The Whiskey Ginger has an ABV of 7% while the Gin & Tonic ABV is 6.8%.
